The Indian Ocean is known for housing most fisheries on Earth due to its productivity, producing 14% of all global fisheries according to the Food and Agriculture Organization. It supports millions of livelihoods through fishing, trade, and tourism. However, rising threats like overfishing, species loss, and unregulated practices demand a shift from the traditional use and throw to a circular economy — one that regenerates ecosystems, reduces waste, and sustains communities.
