It is one of the biggest contributors to the global economy. Statistics in the fashion sector before the COVID-19 pandemic indicated a global revenue between $1.7 trillion and $2.5 trillion. Even though the pandemic caused a 20% decline in revenue in the fashion industry, the global fashion market has continued to thrive despite its sustained period of turbulence and aftershocks. However, around 40 million metric tons of textile waste are generated annually by the fashion industry worldwide, most of which is either disposed of in landfills or burned.
